Just wanted to issue a quick THANK YOU to all CRC runners that made the trip to Malvern and represented the CRC so very well.
We were able to field both a men’s and women’s team, so each team was able to score some points.
Currently the CRC Men are listed in 2nd place… however, your 16 best scores are what end up counting (11 races complete, 20 total races), and if you drop our lowest score (evens us up with LRR & RVR with 10 races) we are actually one point behind RVR and in 3rd place.
The CRC Women are currently in 6th place, not out of it yet, but we need to get in some good races over the summer. See if we can make up a little ground.
Here is the link to the full team score board.
Again… thanks to those that ran Malvern, good luck to those racing this weekend, and most of all… Have a SAFE & HAPPY 4th of July weekend!
Next race is the Dam Night Run 5k on July 31 at beautiful Lake DeGray. Save the date and be there! If you are not on the Grand Prix team, click here to join today – it’s not too late.

The rain held off for the most part and the 2010 Toad Suck 10k raced on. Below are the results from Conway area runners and runners who are a member of the Conway Running Club. Complete results are at http://www.macsrts.com/toadsuck/TOADSUCK10KAGEGROUP.HTM

The 2010 River Trail 15k is history and Conway had a great showing. Karl Lenser runs another awesome performance with a sub 6 minute mile and 3 other runners ran a sub 6:30 min mile. And how about Jimmy Green – he is definitely back. And Frank, you keep getting faster. The conditions were definitely better than last year’s cold rain. This is Grand Prix race number 2 and the Grand Prix team and category results will be posted on the RRCA site soon. Please share your experiences from the race by posting a comment to this post. Way to go Conway.
The following are the results from people from Faulkner County and a few others from outside Faulkner County who are members of the CRC. CLICK HERE for complete race results.

I knew my finishing time would be one 1:00:00. The question was, how far would I go? How many laps around the track. In the wind. This was the question for 16 CRC runners age 7 to 67 who ran the first Grand Prix race of the year. It is a unique event and a great race to work on your focus and pace. We had first time runners like John Ellis and Don Morgan, Lauren running with her Mom, our Conway husband and wife team in Judy and Frank and the youngest runner on the track – great job Katelyn. Way to go Conway.

Check out some of the photos and some more posted on Facebook (you may be required to be logged in to Facebook). Here are some more posted on the RRCA site.

As the 2010 Grand Prix gets under way this weekend with the first event (One Hour Track Run in Russellville), you might want to take a look back at how our Conway runners fared in the 2009 season. Thanks to John Harrison for putting this together for us. Grand Prix racing is a lot of fun and a great way to improve your running and make more running friends. Any time you can turn an individual sport (like running, tennis, golf, swimming, etc.) into a team sport, you really take it to the next level.
Get more information and/or sign up for the Grand Prix. You’ll be glad you did.

We’ve heard that people have a misunderstanding of who the Conway Running Club is, but when we found out that even Google doesn’t understand who we are we realized it was time to do something about it.

Yes, it is true, there are a lot of fast runners in Conway. It’s also true that we’d like for all of the fast runners in Conway to join the club and our Grand Prix team. We believe there are enough fast runners in Conway to get first place in the Arkansas Grand Prix in 2010 if we can get the word out. You don’t have to run all of the races and you don’t have to be fast. The scoring can get a little complicated but suffice it to say that the Spa Pacers edged out our women’s team by 4 points and there were a few races we didn’t have enough women entered to make a team and so those that were able to get points didn’t get any. Consider racing with us. Not only will it make you faster, but it will add a new dimension to your running and keep you motivated to keep training. Running can be a lonely sport, but running with a group and racing with a team can change all of that.

Now, back to our image problem. Not everybody in the Conway Running Club runs fast and is part of the Grand Prix team. There are all levels of runners and we want to be a club that is open to all levels of walkers and runners. One of the most important principles of committing to a running program is to start where you are and add frequency and pace slowly. To do otherwise is to invite burnout, discouragement or injury into your life and these are not our friends. Our friends are those who we get to know while walking and running down the streets of Conway, talking and laughing together. It has been said that when we are not running we talk about running and when we are running we talk about everything else.
If you are not a fast runner or a racer, we need you. We need you to help us fix our image problem. If you like to run but don’t run at 5am in the morning, we need you. We need you to help us fix our image problem. Tell us about your group that meets to run and we’ll spread the word and get some more people out there to run with you. If you have a time and a place to meet with someone expecting you to be there you are more likely to be consistent with your running. If you set goals, you are more likely to meet them. And that is what the Conway Running Club is all about. The bonus is that we all become great friends and are there with you, no matter what you face in your life.

Please join us at our 2010 membership meeting on January 14th at 6pm at the Conway Regional Fitness Center. You don’t have to be a member to attend. Whatever you do, consider becoming a member of the Conway Running Club, you don’t have to be fast or run at 5am.

The first Grand Prix race of the season is only three weeks away. In order to be eligible for the first race you must signed up by the 19th. So don’t delay… Sign up today! Last year we had 49 participants. We had 4 Club members receive awards during the annual RRCA awards ceremony in November, and we have 20 that will be receiving awards during the 2009 Grand Prix awards ceremony on Feb 6th. Our Men’s team finished in second place and our women’s team finished in fourth place, just barely being beaten out by the Spa Pacers for third. Let all work together to make our 2010 team the best it can be.
You say “I don’t run fast.” Well don’t let that stop you. Our team needs runners. No matter what the pace. It takes 4 men and 3 women to field a team. That doesn’t sound like much, but the men did not field a team in one race last year (costing us valuable points) and the women did not field a team in 4 races. I am sure we would have come in at least 3rd if not 2nd if we would have just had enough runners to get team points. There are a lot of races to choose from and whether you run a couple or all of them, you are part of the team and you’ll not only make some friends but you’ll improve your running.

In addition, being part of the Grand Prix running series gives you the opportunity to get to know your fellow club members better. It also gives you the opportunity to get to know runners from all over the state. I have made some good friends at these races. For some personal stories and accounts of just what the Grand Prix means to others click on the link provided and read the message board thread titled “2009 in Retrospect.” You’ll find some very touching stories there and hopefully the encouragement to sign up.
Please consider signing up for the Grand Prix series. It means a lot to our team and I dare to say, you won’t be sorry.
