New Orleans Full and Half Marathon Results

February 28th, 2010

The Conway area sent over 30 runners to New Orleans for the half and full marathon today.  The results are below.  If you run with a Conway group and are NOT on this list, please send us an email to results@conwayrunning.org.  We’d like to include you.  You don’t have to be a CRC member to be included, but if you are not, please join us if you can.  It’s worth it.  So many good stories and so little time tonight to write about them.  So, for now, here are the results.  You can also go to the official website to look up other results.

Look out New Orleans – Conway runners are on the way!

February 26th, 2010

A pack of Conway runners are on their way to New Orleans and from the looks of this photo that just showed up on Facebook, they are already doing some serious carb loading for the race!  Travel safe and bring back a finishing time, maybe a PR, possibly a Boston Qualifying time, a medal and memories to keep you getting up and out on the road, running with your friends.

Wishing all of you a safe and wonderful time at the New Orleans Half and Full Marathon event.  It’s been fun training with you and we can’t wait to hear the results and stories.  In fact, if you want to follow them throughout the race with updates texted to you, you can click here to sign up for updates.

Sylamore Trail 25k and 50k Results

February 26th, 2010

I’m looking real hard and I just can’t see the trail in the picture above.  This was a picture from the site and not from this year but still.  Although we don’t have a race report from any of the runners, kudos to all of them for participating in the event.  More information is available on the official race website and the Arkansas Ultra Running link to the right.

Women Run Arkansas Clinic – starts Monday March 1st

February 24th, 2010

Many of you are familiar with the Women Run Arkansas walk/run clinic. It is a 10 weak clinic in the Spring to help women get started in the sport of walking/running and live a healthier life style. The Conway Clinic starts Monday night, March 1st, at 6:00 pm at the Conway High Track. They have 4 groups. Walkers, Beginning runners A, Beginning runners B, and intermediate runners. In the past we have had as many as 200 women sign up for this clinic. As you can imagine, it takes the dedication of many leaders to help these women on their journey to be a walker/runner. The clinic meets every Monday and Thursday evenings. If you would be willing to be a leader please contact Jeanne Harvey at 472-2716 or Moe Schafer at 329-7572 and let them know.

Not ready for a 10 week commitment but still want to help. Please show up Monday at 5:30 pm at the high school track to help with registration. Many of our leaders will be out that night due to the New Orleans Marathon. As you can imagine it gets quite hectic getting everyone signed up. Just show up, look for someone that looks like they know what they are doing and tell them you are there to help… “what can I do”. They will be more than glad to direct you to a job. We have a wonderful running community inside the Conway Running Club and being there for each other is a big part of it. Thank you in advance.

Judy Massingill

Location Schedule: March 1 – Conway High Track, March 4 – Laurel Park, March 8 – Conway High Track, March 11 – Laurel Park, Every Monday and Thursday after that UCA Track

Next Membership Meeting – Mar 16

February 20th, 2010

When: Tuesday, March 16 at 6 – 7 pm
Where: Conway Regional Fitness Center
Guest Speaker: Leah Thorvilson, 2008 & 2009 Arkansas Female Runner of the Year

It’s been a busy running season already with 3 Grand Prix races behind us and a lot of marathon racing and training completed.  Over 20 runners will be heading to New Orleans for the half marathon / marathon event next weekend and many others are in the final preparation for the Little Rock half and full marathon the following weekend.  There will be a lot of stories and PR’s to share in the next membership meeting.

Leah Thorvilson will be our guest speaker, sharing her story and talking about setting goals and reaching them.  One of the great things about running is no matter how fast you are, you get to race with elite runners.  I’ve run the Berlin marathon twice and both times Haile Gebrselassie broke the world record.  Tommy Walsh ran the Phoenix marathon last month where Deena Kastor, American Olympic bronze medal winner, won the half marathon and our runners going to New Orleans to run the half marathon will be in the field with Ryan Hall.  On a local level, we get to “run with” Leah in Grand Prix races all the time.  Some of you may know her from her overall win at the first Soaring Wings Half marathon in 2008 when she crossed the finish line in 1:16, running at a 5:52 pace for the entire course.   Leah also was the 2010 Little Rock Marathon female winner.  Others may know her by her contagious smile and friendly disposition.  Our March meeting is a great opportunity to hear her story and learn and be inspired by it.

Join us in March for a night of inspiration and information about the sport of running.  Invite your friends.  You don’t have to be a member to attend.

Freakin Eurekan 2010 race results

February 16th, 2010

Well it started out as a big trip to run a beautiful 15k trail run as a group.  It ended up with Melissa and Earl representing the CRC by themselves, running through the slush, mud and snow, crossing a running creek 6 times.  Others thought it was going to be cancelled, decided it didn’t fit into their marathon training schedule, was too cold, or whatever.  And all I have to show for it is a picture at the finish line and some elapsed times and places in a nicely formatted spreadsheet table.  It certainly doesn’t do justice to the experience they had running through the woods, over hills and creeks on a single track trail most of the way.  I guess it’s for them to remember and the rest of us to find out next year.

Valentines 5k results

February 13th, 2010

CRC runners raced the Valentines Day 5k event Saturday Feb 13 and scored some more wins, including 2nd in the Sweetheart Competition going to Stan and Chrissy Ferguson.  This is where the finishing times of two sweethearts is combined for a single time.  Stan was 15th overall and first in his division running at a 5:53 pace combined with Chrissy’s 7:50 pace and 3rd place in the Female masters for a combined time of 42:32.  In spite of the recent snow and cool temps, the course was clear  and the running conditions were perfect.

Happy Valentines Day and Happy Running!
