Difficult trail runs and the mental aspect of racing

Ballbearing

Here's a great lead paragraph from Michael Cook's blog on his Way Too Cool 50k race.  Click on the link or image to the left for the full story.  Thought is was worth sharing. I can say very little about this race, the 2010 Way Too Cool 50K. But let me say a few things. Part of the joy of racing is the anticipation, the planning, the goal setting, the “I’m going to run…”. The other joy is the memory, the looking back, the reflection. I think sometimes there is very little joy in the … [Read more...]

Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon Results

lr_nf

Arkansas runners ran in the half and full marathon events in Atlanta, GA last weekend.  They ran with over 16,000 other runners from 49 states and 20 foreign countries along the same course that the Olympic runners ran in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.  What a great sport running is that we can not only run in a race with other world record holders and olympians, but we get to run on their courses - at our pace and with our own personal goals.  Kudos to the Arkansas runners - just check out … [Read more...]

Where’s Waldo?

whereswaldo

Wondering where Conway / Arkansas runners are running this weekend is a little like the old Where's Waldo challenge.  Last weekend we had runners in the New York Half Marathon and the L.A. Marathon.  Above are the results we know about from these events.  I'm sure there were more in the New York race (or I think there are?), but the results did not have a search by state or city.  If you ran either of these events and are not listed, please email us and we'll add you to the list.  And … [Read more...]

Ever thought of doing an International Marathon?

berlin2009lawn

Came across this account of the 2009 Berlin Marathon.  Running an international marathon, especially a major, like Berlin, is a real experience.  Below is a link to the video of the start followed by a link with many pictures and videos of the entire event posted by Ed Tanguay who ran it.  It's fun to look at and watch and may inspire some of you to look outside the mainland for your next marathon.  Starting line video - the start is always a rush and this captures it well. Full … [Read more...]

Don’t listen to the little man

runningismental

I enjoyed hearing Leah Thorvilson's "story" at the Conway Running Club meeting last night.  I learned a lot about her life and her running experience.  The biggest take-away for me was that although you can't skip training and getting your body ready physically, the final challenge (and often the major one) is the mental challenge.  She referred to it as "the little man in your head".  He says things like "I told you that you would get tired at mile 18", "You need to slow down", "You can't … [Read more...]

Another Great Chase Race is History

ChaseRace2010Don

Hundreds of people experienced the 2010 Chase Race & Paws today.  To some it was another Grand Prix Race.  To others it was one of the few opportunities to enter a race with their pet.  There were others who were not ready for a 5k distance yet and a 2 mile race was exactly what they needed.  It is a race unlike any other that attracts all kinds of people and has meaning beyond a starting line, a finishing line and a time clock to count the seconds between them.  For Don Potter, … [Read more...]

Cross Country Runner for Juvenile Arthritis is in Arkansas

PatrickMcGlade_jpg_w300h200

We received email notification of Patrick's journey and although we are not on the running route, I thought it was important for all of us to know about this running event that will be taking place in Arkansas for the next week or so.  You may know of others who are in the route Patrick is running or may choose to travel to meet him - or maybe support his mission. Hello Running Club members of Arkansas, Patrick McGlade is a young 21-year-old college graduate from VA running across the … [Read more...]
